Garnier and TerraCycle ended the summer on a green note with the installation of the Garnier Green Garden in New York City! By partnering with GrowNYC and the Union Settlement Association in Spanish Harlem, we renovated a community garden that was badly damaged during Hurricane Sandy.
Beauty waste collected through the Personal Care and Beauty Brigade was recycled into plastic lumber and used to make 55 raised garden beds, five picnic tables, and three trash bins. Garnier and TerraCycle employees completed the installation with a little help from the children at the on-site day care center, who made upcycled flower pots and played recycling games.
Neighborhood residents will use the space to come together and grow vegetables, fruits, herbs and flowers. The garden will serve as a lasting testament to the positive impact that creative recycling can have on a community.
Since the Personal Care and Beauty Brigade launched in April 2011, more than 11,000 Brigade locations have helped us keep almost 2.7 million pieces of hair care, skin care and cosmetic packaging out of landfills. Get in on the action.
Awesome!!!
