If you like wearing hair accessories, this is your lucky DIY week. You will learn how to make an upcycled barrette to tie back pesky, loose strands.
Using a used candy wrapper or snack bag, a ruler, a small barrette, a marker or pen, double stick tape, and scissors, we are able to create a trendy hair barrette.
After collecting and cleaning your snack wrappers, you can find out how to make your own upcycled barrette using our step-by-step PDF tutorial that can be found on TerraCycle’s Facebook and Twitter pages. Or check out our instructional video on our YouTube channel.
Our instructions are just a guideline to creating your own fashionable barrette! Feel free to use other upcycled materials to decorate your unique barrette!
If you don’t happen to have an abundance of used snack or candy wrappers at home, you can always substitute with old magazines, scrap paper, newspapers, or other wrappers.
Be sure to show the world your creation and spread the idea of upcycling to your friends and family and/or post a picture to our Facebook or Twitter page. You can also send in the rest of your snack wrappers to the Snack Bag Brigade and give them new life!
This fun upcycling activity is a great way to spend your weekend and more importantly redirects waste from landfills.
Check back next week for another TGI…DIY project from TerraCycle!
